I have not done a lot of posting the last few weeks, been very busy at work, so getting away on a Family History Trip would be wonderful. I have been to the place of birth of three of my four grandparents, so the ultimate trip would be to the birthplace of my grandfather Anton Mikkel Hansen (this Blog uses his middle name) in Humble parish, on the island of Laangeland in Svendborg county, Denmark. This is located in the southern part of that island and just east of the main peninsula Jutland of Denmark. My grandfather and his father Hans Mikkelsen were both born in that parish as were Anton's 9 siblings, his mother Karen Jorgensen and grandfather Mikkel Madsen were both born in parishes close to the Humble parish. Not sure how much this would cost, but I expect I would have enough left to check out the area in England where my grandmother's Dillinghams were from in Leicestershire, and then stop in Cape Cod where the Dillingham's settled in 1630, and then moved north to Oxford County in Maine where they stayed till after the Civil War. After all that I might switch to my moms family and wander down the Hudson River in New York and head south to North Carolina, west to Tennessee and finally end up in Trenton Missouri where my mom and her father was born. If I had some money left I might follow the route my Kelly bible took. It says it traveled over the prairie to California in 1862 to Danville California, stayed there till 1865, then down the Sacramento River to San Francisco, a ship to Panama, across the isthmus and then up the east coast to New York and then back to Ursa, Illinois to the farm. Maybe then I could find the parents of Thomas Kelly.

A Festival of Postcards Light

This is another of my dad's post cards. It is a picture of the Aerial Bridge and Entrance to Duluth Harbor, Duluth Minnesota. While it has no date nor message on the back, I think it came from his sister Carrie Hansen, when she was going to school in Minneapolis. He has several more from Minneapolis and St. Paul. This one has a row of streetlights along one side and a light house on the other side.

Massive Fireplace in Old Faithful Inn. Notice all the wood supports and railings behind the fireplace. A few years ago when they were going to refurbish the Old Faithful Inn they hired an architect to help them. When he walked in he said there was no way those support logs could hold up all the floors, railings and roof, as wood is not that strong, but the building has been standing for a century. It took him a while but he found the secrete, all the support logs are hollow and inside them is a steel structure holding up the building and all the floors of the inn.

This is a postcard to my dad Claude Hansen when he was 9 years old from his cousin Walter Hansen. My dad was born in Sebeka, Minnesota to Anton and Anna Hansen on a farm right next door to Anton's brothers Lawrence Hansen and John Hansen. Walter Hansen was a son of Lawrence Hansen and was only 5 years old when this card was sent.

Anton and Anna Hansen and family moved to Columbus Montana in 1910, where Anton ran the creamery.
