Mount Saint Helens May 18, 1980 Remembered

Well it is May 18th again, anniversary of the Mount Saint Helens blowing its top in 1980. I did an article in 2010 and 2011 on Mt. St. Helens and you can see them here so I won't do another one. The devastation is healing and so is the memories of those of us that were inconvenienced by the ash.

Saturday Night Fun Mothers Day

Your mission, should you decide to accept it (cue the Mission Impossible! music) is to:

1)  Tomorrow is Mother's Day in the United States, so let's celebrate that!

2)  Tell us a story about your mother's daily life - what did she do during her days while you were growing up?  Did she work outside the home?  Did she volunteer for a school or organization?  What hobbies or interests did she have?  It can be any time in your childhood and school years.

Well I guess my mom worked from the time she graduated from high school, first as a clerk at Casey's Department Store in Hillyard, later as a soda jerk for Mr. Temple's confectionery store right next door to the movie theater also in Hillyard.  She was taking classes to be a bookkeeper and an LPA, but never got the LPA as she was short on hours when the state stopped issuing LPA licenses.  As long as I can remember she worked in the home as a bookkeeper and did the income taxes for her bookkeeping clients. Later she did income taxes for a lot of other people.
She was the treasurer for the PTA for our grade school, which seems kind of odd, since the PTA did not have any money. They did do some fund raising and all the money went to the school.
Mom was always doing some crafts of some kind, but probably the most she did was ceramics, and she bought her own kiln and fired her own ceramics.
