52 Weeks to Abundant Genealogy Family Traditions

Week 23: Family Traditions: For which family tradition are you most thankful? How did the tradition start? Which family members have been responsible for keeping the tradition alive and how has it shaped your own family history? Well mom liked swimming so in the early 1950s mom and pop started looking for a lake lot, and they found that good lake lots were hard to find, but they finally found a lot on Twin Lakes in northern Idaho about 32 miles from our home in Spokane, Washington. It was a nearly flat lot with a sandy beach and the lake in front was shallow and muddy, so in 1954 they bought a lot and a half there, (our neighbors from Spokane bought the neighboring lot and a half), and we started building a cabin, and later a dock. So now the tradition; every warm weekend we spent our time at the "lake". Pop was a dry lander from Montana and not a real water person, but a great builder and mechanic to keep everything running. Since mom and pop have both passed away, my sister and I own the lake property, and she spends most of the summer there while I still go up on weekends. The picture below is from the north end of the lot looking south towards the lake early in the year as the dock is still on the lawn. We bring it up out of the water as the ice does a number on docks, and roll it back into the lake in the summer.
