Saturday Night Genealogy Fun Bucket List

Your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to: Knowing that a "Bucket List" is a wish list of things to do before death:
 1) What is on your Genealogy Bucket List? What research locations do you want to visit? Are there genea-people that you want to meet and share with? What do you want to accomplish with your genealogy research? List a minimum of three items - more if you want!
2) Tell us about it in a blog post of your own (please give me a link in Comments), a comment to this post in Comments, a status line or comment on Facebook., or a Google+ Stream post.

  1. Well I would like to visit Denmark and see the farm my grandfather was born on in Humble Parish.
  2. I would like to visit the area in North Carolina where John "Jackie" Vanderpool was born so maybe I can find his parents.
  3. I would also like to take one of the genealogy cruses, be nice to be able to be away from home that long. An ideal cruse would be from New England to England and ending in Denmark.
  4. I would like to go to a couple more national conferences.
  5. I would like to visit Salt Lake City again, maybe do the Christmas Tour again.

Carnival of Genealogy #119 Swimsuit Edition

This picture was taken in 1992 at Upper Twin Lake in north Idaho. That is me and my sister collecting lake weed from in front of our lake place. Some year we have a bunch of these weeds and some years not very much of it. 1992 we had a lot and we collect it and use it for mulch in the garden. As I said in the swim suit issue last year finding a picture of me in my swim suit is very hard as I sun burn so easily I usually wore a T-shirt when I went in the lake.

Saturday Night Fun Name Acrostic

Your mission this week, should you decide to accept it, is to:
  1. Visit Beverly's Reeves, Reaves and More Rives blog post titled John A. and Nancy Reves Remembered. Note the acrostic poem made from the letters of their names. Isn't that cool?
  2. Select one of your ancestors, and make a Name Acrostic for them. If you can write poems like these, please do it. If you're non-creative like me, then just list the letters of their name and write one word for each letter in the name that describes your selected person.
  3. Show us your Name Acrostic on your own blog post, on a comment to this post, in a Facebook Status or a Google+ Stream post.
OK here is the name of my great grandfather and the letters are names of his kids or grand-kids:
  •  Hans

Wordless Wednesday Maddux kids

This picture was taken in Columbus, Montana in 1956 of Kathleen, David and Sheila Maddux. They were related to my grandmother and probably the reason my grandparents moved to Columbus from Minnesota.

Saturday Night Fun How Popular is your Name?

1)  Go to the Popular Baby Name page on the Find the Best website at http://popular-baby-names.findthebest.com/.

2)  Enter your given name into the search box, click the appropriate gender button, and click on the "All" Decade button.  Note the results for your given name.

3)  Tell us about how the popularity of your name has changed over the decades.  Were you named during the buildup, the height, or the drawdown of the popularity of your given name?

Well Charles was a fairly popular name. I was named after my grandfather who was born in 1890 so rank #5 then, while I was named in 1948 so rank #7. Looks like most numbers for decade I was born in.

Then I tried Michael my middle name, that to was my other grandfathers name, but he was born in 1870 in Denmark so probably not on this list. I was surprised Michael was #1 for 4 decades and is still #2.

52 Weeks to Abundant Genealogy Family Traditions

Week 23: Family Traditions: For which family tradition are you most thankful? How did the tradition start? Which family members have been responsible for keeping the tradition alive and how has it shaped your own family history? Well mom liked swimming so in the early 1950s mom and pop started looking for a lake lot, and they found that good lake lots were hard to find, but they finally found a lot on Twin Lakes in northern Idaho about 32 miles from our home in Spokane, Washington. It was a nearly flat lot with a sandy beach and the lake in front was shallow and muddy, so in 1954 they bought a lot and a half there, (our neighbors from Spokane bought the neighboring lot and a half), and we started building a cabin, and later a dock. So now the tradition; every warm weekend we spent our time at the "lake". Pop was a dry lander from Montana and not a real water person, but a great builder and mechanic to keep everything running. Since mom and pop have both passed away, my sister and I own the lake property, and she spends most of the summer there while I still go up on weekends. The picture below is from the north end of the lot looking south towards the lake early in the year as the dock is still on the lawn. We bring it up out of the water as the ice does a number on docks, and roll it back into the lake in the summer.

Wordless Wednesday B17

Felts Field the airport very close to where my sister lives was hosting a B17 last week, and I got a picture of this one as it flew over us. My dad was in the 354th Service Squadron during WWII and they serviced the B17s and B24s that bombed Italy and Germany.
